NOT the chaff! - ¡NO soy la paja!

Luke 3: 4-6 "Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation."

The above verses have been quoted by great speakers, such is the case of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in his famous speech, "I Have a Dream." However, it's origin is found in the precious bible in Luke 3:4-6 These words were proclaimed by John the Baptist, as he was 'preparing the way' for the coming of the Lord. During that time, John went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Wherever he went he would exhort others to repent, which means have a transformative change of heart. 

A transformative change of heart, or repentance as we know it, comes from a place where we seek God in every area of our lives. This means we want Him to invade us in all our daily actions, thoughts, feelings, whims, and desires. We want Him to be the center of everything we go about to accomplish. By going about life seeking to be in good terms with God, we are careful, trying hard to please Him by doing as He so desires for us. 

Luke 3:8 "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance." 

This is what happens when we are being intentional in trying our best to please the Lord in all things. We are able to produce good fruit; a reflection of having our lives in complete submission to the Lord.

Luke 3:9 "The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."

However, many times we 'forget' about living a life that is worthy in accordance to the Lord's desires. So if you notice, right after John is saying that our lives should producte fruit, as we are keeping in repentance...which is a continuous action. We must be keeping the Word. Keeping our thoughts pure. Keeping our life aligned to the purpose of God in us. 

Right after that verse, he continues by saying that "the ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire." There is no middle ground here; either we produce fruit that glorifies the Father, or we will be cut down and thrown into the fire. There is figurative speech in this verse in Luke 3:9. The ax represents judgment that will take place...the trees represent us, and the fire is the lake of fire that is referenced in scripture for over 54 verses. 

Luke 3:17 "His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

If we remain with hardened hearts, and decide not to repent - living a life that displeases the Lord, the consequence is Luke 3:17. 

A winnowing fork is an agricultural method developed by ancient cultures for separating grain from chaff. The chaff is the garbage found in the grain. We definitely want to be found in the wheat category, not the chaff. The wheat will be put into HIS barn - but, the chaff will be burnt. 

Matthew 5:13-16  “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Yes, Matthew 5:13-16 states WHO WE ARE. We were made to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are not the chaff! Our heart's desire should be in the place of loving on the Father, and in doing so, we want to please Him. We want to honor His Word, and will align ourselves with being the salt and the light. 

In doing so, just as John the Baptist acknowledged the need to proclaim this, we should also seek the Lord in prayer, and repent. Let us prepare the way for the Lord, making straight our paths for Him. Therefore, the crooked roads shall become straight, and the rough ways smooth. God desires for ALL to see His salvation.

Lucas 3: 4-6 “Preparen el camino del Señor, háganle sendas derechas. Todo valle será rellenado, toda montaña y colina será allanada. Los caminos torcidos se enderezarán, las sendas escabrosas quedarán llanas. Y todo mortal verá la salvación de Dios”

Los versos arriba han sido usados en discursos muy reconocidos, como es el caso del Dr.  Martin Luther King, Jr., en su gran discurso,  "Yo Tengo un Sueño." Sin embargo, su origen se encuentra en la preciosa Palabra de Dios, justo en el libro de Lucas 3:4-6.  Estas palabras fueron proclamadas por Juan el Bautista, mientras el 'preparaba el camino' del Señor. Durante este tiempo, Juan iba por todo el país alrededor del Río Jordán, predicando un bautismo de arrepentimiento para el perdon de pecados. Donde quiera que el iba, exhortaba a otros para que se arrepintieran, lo que significa tener un cambio transformativo en el corazón.  

Un cambio transformativo en el corazón, o arrepentimiento como lo conocemos, viene de un lugar donde buscamos a Dios en cada área de nuestras vidas. Esto significa que queremos que El invada todas nuestras acciones, pensamientos, sentimientos, y deseos.  Queremos que El sea el centro de todo cuanto perseguimos en cumplir. Al querer andar en nuestra vida en buenos términos con el Señor, somos cuidadosos, y tratamos fuertemente agradarle, haciendo lo que El desea para nosotros. 

Lucas 3:8  "Produzcan frutos que demuestren arrepentimiento." 

Esto es lo que sucede cuando estamos siendo intencionales en buscar agradar a Dios en todas las cosas.  Podemos producir un buen fruto; una reflexión de tener nuestras vidas en completa sumisión para el Señor.  

Lucas 3:9 "Es más, el hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles, y todo árbol que no produzca buen fruto será cortado y arrojado al fuego."

Sin embargo, muchas veces 'olvidamos' vivir una vida que es digna y va de acuerdo con los deseos del Señor.  Así que si te fijas bien, justo después que Juan dice que nuestras vidas deben producir fruto que demuestre arrepentimiento...lo cual es un estado continuo...demostrar la Palabra viva en nosotros; demostrar nuestros pensamientos en las acciones alineadas al propósito de Dios en nosotros. 

Justo después de ese versículo, Juan continua diciendo que "el hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles, y todo árbol que no produzca buen fruto será cortado y arrojado al fuego." No existe un punto medio aquí; o producimos fruto que glorifique al Padre, o vamos a ser cortados y tirados dentro del fuego.  Hay lenguaje figurado en este verso de Lucas 3:9. El hacha representa el juicio que va a tomar lugar...los árboles nos representan a nosotros, y el fuego es el lago de fuego del cuál se habla en la Palabra más de 54 veces.  

Lucas 3:17 "Tiene el aventador en la mano para limpiar su era y recoger el trigo en su granero; la paja, en cambio, la quemará con fuego que nunca se apagará.”

Si permanecemos con corazones endurecidos y decidimos no arrepentirnos - vivendo una vida que no agrada a Dios, las consecuencias se encuentran en Lucas 3:17. 

El aventador es una herramienta para la agricultura, que fue desarrollada en las culturas antiguas para separar la paja del trigo.  La paja es la basura que sale del trigo. Sin duda alguna queremos ser hallados en la categoría de trigo, no de paja. El trigo va a ser colocado adentro de su granero, pero la paja va a ser quemada. 

Mateo 5:13-16  »Ustedes son la sal de la tierra. Pero, si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿cómo recobrará su sabor? Ya no sirve para nada, sino para que la gente la deseche y la pisotee.  »Ustedes son la luz del mundo. Una ciudad en lo alto de una colina no puede esconderse. Ni se enciende una lámpara para cubrirla con un cajón. Por el contrario, se pone en la repisa para que alumbre a todos los que están en la casa. Hagan brillar su luz delante de todos, para que ellos puedan ver las buenas obras de ustedes y alaben al Padre que está en el cielo.

Sí, Mateo 5:13-16 dice QUIENES SOMOS. Fuimos creados para ser la sal de la tierra y la luz del mundo. ¡No somos la paja! El deseo de nuestro corazón debe estar en querer agradar y amar al Padre. Cuando estamos en ese lugar, todo lo que queremos es agradarlo. Queremos honrar Su Palabra y alinearnos a ser la sal y la luz. 

Al hacer esto, así como Juan el Bautista reconoció la necesidad de proclamarlo, nosotros también debemos buscar al Señor en oración y arrepentimiento.  Preparemos el camino del Señor, haciendo nuestro caminar recto para El. De esta manera, los caminos torcidos serán enderezados, y los caminos escabrosos serán aplanados. Dios desea que TODOS miremos Su salvación.
